EPICA F1 watermelon is an early and productive Crimson Sweet type hybrid developed by the French breeding company Clause. The plant features vigorous growth, strong stems, and a dense, upright leaf canopy, promoting rapid development of the bush and root system. Harvesting can begin as early as 60-70 days after transplanting, with two to four fruits forming per plant, characterized by uniform oval shape and classic striped coloring.
EPICA watermelon fruits weigh between 12 to 14 kg, have a round-oval shape, and are covered with a medium-thickness (10-12 mm) hard rind that reliably protects them from damage during transport and storage. The flesh is bright red, crisp, juicy, and uniform, without internal cavities and with a moderate amount of small seeds. The flesh contains approximately 10-11% sugar, providing a pleasant sweet taste. Thanks to these qualities, the watermelon is suitable for fresh consumption, pickling, and processing.
The hybrid exhibits high resistance to adverse weather conditions, stress, and major diseases affecting melon crops, including anthracnose and fusarium. It is well-adapted to the hot climate and moderate rainfall conditions of southern regions. EPICA F1 demonstrates stable fruiting and maintains its commercial and flavor qualities during long-term transport and storage up to 1-2 months after harvest.
