Watermelon GARNY

Reliability and Taste from NAAS Breeders

The 'Harnyi' watermelon is a product of long-term development by the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of the NAAS, specifically tailored to Ukraine's climate. Unlike many imported hybrids that demand intensive fertilization and ideal growing conditions, this variety shows remarkable adaptability.

Agronomic Advantages

• Plant Health: The variety's main asset is its high genetic resistance to powdery mildew and anthracnose. This allows for a significant reduction in pesticide use, making it an attractive choice for eco-conscious farming operations.
• Efficiency: With a growing season of 89 days, 'Harnyi' is classified as mid-early. It is perfectly suited for regions where summers are moderate, ensuring that the fruit develops proper sugar content, unlike ultra-early varieties, and avoids the risks of late-season cold snaps.

Fruit Characteristics

'Harnyi' targets the market for "portion-sized" watermelons. Weighing between 2.5 and 3 kg, it is highly convenient for retail and storage. The pink flesh offers a classic, refreshing flavor, while its round shape ensures easy transport and handling.

Who is this variety for? It is an optimal solution for small-scale farms and gardeners who value predictability. If your soil is prone to fungal pathogens and you want to minimize fungicide treatments, 'Harnyi' is a dependable option.

Weaknesses: This variety yields less per hectare compared to commercial 'big-type' hybrids and is not suitable for long-term storage. It is best suited for direct sales at the peak of the season.
