Purple walnut – a unique variety, distinguished by a bright purplish-red hue of the hull around the kernel and a pearl-white kernel with a bluish sheen. The nut has a sweetish taste, which is preserved due to high stable yield. The medium-sized tree reaches a height of about 6 m at the age of 17 and is characterized by a protogenic type of flowering.
The fruits are large – approximately 37.8×35.0×31.9 mm, uniform oval shape with a rounded apex and conical base. The average nut weight is about 15 g, and the kernel yield – 56 %. Fruiting begins as early as the 3rd-4th year after planting, which allows for a quick first harvest. Ripening occurs in the second decade of September, and nuts are ready for collection and consumption.
The yield of this variety is consistently high – about 68.8 c/ha, and winter hardiness reaches -37 °C, making it suitable for cultivation in cold climatic conditions. Thanks to the combination of attractive appearance, high kernel quality, and resistance to low temperatures, the purple walnut is in demand both among gardeners and in the food market.
