This walnut variety is highly productive and resistant to adverse climatic conditions. It was bred in the 1950s in eastern Uzbekistan, and its name 'Greek Giant' highlights its large fruits and early maturation period. The nuts are of medium size (10–12 g) with an elongated oval shape; the kernel is light in color and easily separates from the shell, making it convenient for further processing.
The variety is characterized by stable yield and high winter hardiness – it withstands temperatures down to -30 °C. Thanks to good disease and drought resistance, the tree can grow in moderately moist loam-carbonate soils under sunny exposure. The optimal ripening period is from mid-September to early October, allowing harvest at the beginning of autumn.
For successful cultivation, proper soil preparation, regular fertilization, and timely pruning are required. After harvesting, nuts should be stored in a dry place to preserve kernel quality. Such a variety is suitable for both commercial production and private garden plots, adding an exotic look and providing a nutritious product.
