Common walnut ASTAKHOVSKY

A Breeding Breakthrough for Temperate Climates

The 'Astakhovsky' walnut, developed by the Williams Research Center, addresses the primary challenge for growers in cold-climate regions: how to ensure consistent yields in unpredictable weather. The variety's core value lies in its exceptional winter hardiness and its ability to bear fruit even after harsh winters that typically damage other walnut varieties.

Agronomic Traits and Potential

The tree is medium-sized, which significantly simplifies pruning, maintenance, and harvesting. The rounded shape of the nut facilitates mechanical processing, while the kernel's sweet, dessert-like flavor profile sets it apart from common industrial varieties that often carry a bitter aftertaste.

• Yield: consistent performance of 20–30 kg per mature tree.
• Ripening: well-adapted to shorter growing seasons.
• Strengths: high resistance to late spring frosts and robust regenerative capacity.

Why Choose 'Astakhovsky'?

This variety is ideal for private orchards and small-scale farms operating in unstable climates. If you are seeking a reliable tree with predictable results, 'Astakhovsky' is a top-tier choice. However, keep in mind that to achieve the peak yield of 30 kg, proper agricultural practices are essential; the variety responds well to consistent irrigation and fertilization, while overcrowding the crown may decrease overall production efficiency.
