Astakhovsky walnut is a variety distinguished by early ripening and high yield. The tree reaches a height of 4–5 m and has a dense, spherical crown with oval leaves. It begins to bear fruit as early as the 6th–7th year after planting, and sometimes even earlier, making it attractive to gardeners who wish to quickly obtain a harvest.
The quality of Astakhovsky walnuts is highly valued by confectioners and consumers. The kernels are round, weigh from 20 to 25 grams, contain about 70% fat, and have a sweet taste with a slight sourness. The shell is thin, which facilitates shelling. The fruits ripen by the end of September and can be harvested in quantities up to 30 kg from a single tree.
The variety is distinguished by its resistance to diseases and pests, as well as frost hardiness – it withstands temperatures down to -35 °C. The tree is self-fertile, which simplifies planting and increases production efficiency. Thanks to moderate growth and undemanding care, Astakhovsky is suitable for cultivation across the entire territory of Ukraine, including regions with harsh climatic conditions.
