The hazelnut variety 'Bukovina Bomba' is a high-yielding tree with large, round-cylindrical fruits, typically weighing 17–18 grams, with some specimens reaching 22–25 grams. The nut kernel is light-colored, finely textured, and easily separates from the shell, facilitating processing and use. The fruits are rich in vitamins, microelements, and plant oil, making them particularly valuable nutritionally. The shell is smooth, light-yellow, and relatively easy to crack.
The tree exhibits high cold resistance, tolerating temperatures down to -28°C, and resistance to diseases including marsupial, ensuring stable yields and a long lifespan. The variety is vigorous, reaching a height of 10–12 meters. Flowering occurs in May, with female flowers blooming approximately six days after male flowers, followed by fruit formation on terminal buds. The variety is highly drought-tolerant, enabling cultivation under various climatic conditions.
Fruiting begins on the 5th–6th year after planting, with maximum yields achieved at 15–20 years of age, reaching 110–130 kg per tree. Fruits ripen at the end of September to early October. The variety is self-fertile, but for increased yield, additional pollinators — particularly other Bukovina hazelnut varieties — are recommended. For planting, choose sunny areas with well-drained soil, following a 6x8 or 8x8 meter spacing scheme and a planting hole size of 60x60x60 cm.
