ORIONID is a new walnut variety selected in Moldova, quickly gaining popularity due to high yield and early fruiting. The medium-sized tree begins bearing fruit as early as 4–6 years, and can produce 130 to 140 kg of walnuts per tree in peak years (15–20). The fruits are large – 17.5–19.5 g, oval-shaped, and the light-colored kernel separates easily from the shell, making it convenient for further processing.
The variety is characterized by good adaptation to moderately moist clay-loam-carbonate soils and sunny areas. Flowering begins in mid-May, and ripening occurs in late September–early October, allowing for early harvest planning. Due to its medium height and early fruiting, "ORIONID" walnuts provide an earlier harvest compared to other walnut varieties.
Walnuts in general are valued for their rich vitamin and mineral composition, as well as their beneficial properties for the brain and memory. They are widely used in cuisine: from appetizers to desserts, soups, and side dishes. The "ORIONID" variety preserves all these advantages, offering a quality product with excellent taste and high nutritional value.
