Meylannaise / Melanze

The Meylannaise walnut is a medium-sized tree with terminal fruiting. The fruits of this variety are medium to large, weighing from 11 to 13 grams, with a ridged surface on the upper part and a smoother lower part. The kernel is white, easily separates from the shell, and fills the shell well, possessing high flavor qualities. This variety is late-ripening, with fruit maturation occurring at the end of September, and fruiting begins on the 6th to 8th year after planting. This variety is ideal for cultivation under medium to high planting density, using central leader or cup-shaped crown systems. Meylannaise is a pollinator for the Franquette variety, which contributes to increased yield and fruit quality. Due to its adaptability, the variety tolerates drought and frost well, making it suitable for cultivation in Ukraine. Historically, the walnut has played an important role in Ukrainian agriculture, where since 1937, regionalization and registration of various varieties have been conducted. Meylannaise, as a modern variety, combines the best qualities developed by breeders and meets requirements for yield and resilience. Its cultivation contributes to the development of walnut farming and expands the range of fruit crops in the region.
