Description Kurzim
Kurzim is a hazelnut variety developed in Ukraine at the Dniester Experimental Station for Horticulture in 1995 by breeder Fedor Tikhonovich Zatokov. The tree is vigorous, forming a large, rounded crown, though the height of mature trees does not exceed 5 meters. The variety is distinguished by high cold resistance and resistance to marsonia disease, allowing it to be successfully grown throughout Ukraine. Fruit production begins on the 5th–6th year, and yield reaches 9–11 kg per tree by the 7th–8th year.

The fruits of the Kurzim variety are medium-sized, weighing from 10.1 to 14.1 grams, with an elongated-oval or round shape. The shell is light-yellow, thin, and almost smooth, easily crushed by hand, with a weak seam. The kernel is light, straw-colored, well fills the shell, and easily separates from the valves. Kernel yield is 50–53%. The kernel is rich in fats (68–71%), proteins (13–16%), sugars, and vitamins, ensuring high taste quality and nutritional value of the fruits.

Fruit ripening occurs at the end of September, and the consumption period can last up to one year without loss of commercial or taste qualities. The Kurzim variety is suitable for both personal cultivation and industrial production due to its stable high yield, good immunity, and excellent fruit characteristics.
