Yaroslavskaya 136: Strategic Forage Crop Management

Vetch variety «Yaroslavskaya 136», developed by the Yaroslavl Research Institute of Animal Husbandry and Forage Production, is a specialized solution for farms focusing on high-protein feed self-sufficiency. As a grain legume, its primary utility lies in its integration into forage crop rotation systems.

Field Application and Operational Scenarios

The variety is engineered for early spring sowing, utilizing early-season soil moisture to maximize vegetative growth. Its practical value is best realized through specific agricultural operational patterns:

• High-Protein Forage Mixtures: Yaroslavskaya 136 is ideal for intercropping with oats or barley. These mixtures are a standard practice for creating a balanced 'green conveyor' for livestock, significantly reducing reliance on expensive protein concentrates.
• Soil Structure Improvement: As a nitrogen-fixing legume, it functions as a vital component for soil health, leaving behind a nutrient-rich environment for the following rotation crops.
• Silage and Haylage Production: The variety exhibits consistent growth, which simplifies mechanical harvesting at the peak nutritional stage. Proper timing of the harvest is essential for producing high-quality haylage that retains maximum protein content.

For farm managers, Yaroslavskaya 136 offers a predictable path to enhancing cattle feed rations. By capitalizing on early spring planting, the variety ensures robust biomass development, providing a reliable yield of green forage even under variable climatic conditions.
