Vetch Novi Beograd

Protein Efficiency in Forage Production

The «Noviy Belgrad» vetch variety, developed by the Institut Za Ratarstvo I Povrtarstvo in Serbia, serves as a cornerstone for livestock operations aiming to optimize feed costs through high-protein forage. Designed by breeders Milošević Branko and Mihajlović Vojislav, this pulse crop is engineered for productivity and reliable performance in the field.

Field Application and Management

• Green Forage Systems: Due to its vigorous vegetative growth, the variety is an ideal choice for high-quality green fodder, helping to bridge the gap in early-season feed availability.
• Silage and Haylage Production: When integrated into mixed cropping systems—commonly with oats or barley—«Noviy Belgrad» provides a well-balanced nutritional profile. The resulting forage is highly digestible, supporting better metabolic health and production yields in livestock.
• Soil Health and Rotation: Beyond its role as a forage crop, this variety serves as an excellent nitrogen-fixing component in crop rotation. It helps naturally replenish soil nitrogen levels, creating optimal conditions for subsequent cereal crops and reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers.

For modern farm management, the value of «Noviy Belgrad» lies in its predictability. The variety exhibits uniform maturation, which simplifies the harvest schedule and ensures consistent feed quality throughout the storage season. By incorporating this Serbian-bred variety into your cropping plan, you are choosing a practical path toward self-sufficiency in high-quality protein, effectively reducing reliance on external concentrate feeds.
