Vetch Viarika

Practical Application of Vetch 'Viarika' in Farm Operations

The spring vetch 'Viarika', bred by the Vinnytsia State Agricultural Research Station (UAAS), is a valuable tool for agronomists aiming to improve soil structure and secure high-protein forage. With a plant height ranging from 80 to 120 cm, this variety provides optimal vegetative mass for livestock feed and soil management programs.

Why choose 'Viarika'?

• Forage Production: 'Viarika' is best suited for mixed sowing with oats or barley. This combination balances the livestock diet with protein, while the grain acts as a support, preventing the vetch from lodging.
• Green Manure (Cover Crop): Due to its deep root system and nitrogen-fixing abilities, this variety is used to enrich the soil with organic matter. Incorporating the biomass during the flowering stage significantly reduces the need for synthetic nitrogen fertilizers for subsequent winter wheat crops.
• Weed Suppression: The rapid growth of the canopy creates a dense stand that effectively shades out weeds in the early stages, helping to lower herbicide costs and reduce chemical load on the field.

Farmers value this variety for its adaptability to Ukrainian soil and climatic conditions, consistent seed yields, and stable green mass production. By choosing 'Viarika', a farm invests in resource efficiency through biological agriculture and enhanced quality of the forage base.
