Tulip Jan van Zanten's Memory

Elegance in Every Curve: Jan van Zanten's Memory

Among lily-flowered tulips, the Jan van Zanten's Memory variety occupies a distinct niche. Unlike classic goblet-shaped tulips, this cultivar stands out for its refined silhouette: narrow petals with pointed tips, gently curved outwards, mimicking the grace of a lily. Its deep pink hue, combined with a subtle pearlescent sheen, makes it a top choice for premium spring floral arrangements.

Key Features and Cultivation

• Late Blooming: The variety opens its buds late in the season, allowing you to extend the vibrancy of your garden long after early-season tulips have faded.
• High Stature: The stems grow to a significant height, which provides great structural presence for cut flowers, though it requires selecting a location shielded from strong winds.
• Flower Type: Classified as a lily-flowered tulip, this group is celebrated for its ability to unfurl dramatically under direct sunlight, showing off its intricate shape.

Who is this variety for?

This tulip is a connoisseur's pick. If you are looking for a standard workhorse for massive forcing, Jan van Zanten's Memory might seem slightly more demanding compared to simple early varieties. However, for landscape design or creating high-end professional bouquets, it is irreplaceable. Its Achilles' heel is its susceptibility to weather extremes—heavy rain or strong gusts can damage the delicate, pointed petals. Therefore, the ideal planting site is a sheltered spot or a mixed border protected by perennial shrubs.

Unlike many mass-market hybrids, this variety requires slightly more attention to soil fertility and drainage. If provided with the right conditions, it rewards the grower with an impeccable form and a rare, noble shade of pink that elevates any garden display.
