Tulip Christina van Kooten

Structural Engineering of the Lily-Flowered Tulip

The 'Christina van Kooten' variety belongs to the Lily-flowered group, defined by its sophisticated floral geometry. The primary mechanical feature is the narrow, elongated tepals with outward-curving tips. This architectural design creates a glass-like silhouette that transitions into a star shape upon full expansion. The cell wall rigidity within the tepals provides structural integrity, allowing the flower to withstand wind gusts without losing its vertical axis.

Agrotechnical Profile

• Flowering Schedule: Late-season bloomer. It acts as an essential closer in the tulip production cycle, effectively extending the decorative window.
• Color Dynamics: Deep pink hues with a pearl sheen. The pigment chemistry is highly resistant to photodegradation, maintaining color intensity under prolonged sun exposure.
• Habit: Tall stem. The high tensile strength of the stalk makes this cultivar an optimal choice for commercial cut-flower production, ensuring durability during transport.

The practical utility of 'Christina van Kooten' lies in its consistent performance and reliable bulb propagation. To maximize visual impact, standard phosphorus-potassium fertilization is required during the budding phase. This ensures optimal pigment saturation and reinforces the mechanical fibers of the tall stem, preventing lodging in field or greenhouse conditions.
