Tulip Jazz

Aesthetics and resilience: why Yazz stands out

Lily-flowered tulips are often viewed as temperamental, but the Yazz variety challenges this perception. Its main advantage is an unexpectedly high resistance to pathogens for this class. While other varieties might struggle with early spring dampness, Yazz exhibits robust immunity to white rot and downy mildew.

Visuals and biology

The variety is easily identified by its signature bud shape: elegant, slightly reflexed petals that resemble a tropical lily. The coloring is a deep play of gradients—from rich pink to vibrant red—making it an eye-catching focal point in any landscape. Its mid-season flowering period allows Yazz to fit perfectly into the transition period when early bulbs have finished and late ones have yet to peak.

Pros and cons

• Strengths: Integrated protection against phomopsis and phoma leaf spot allows for a reduction in fungicide applications. The medium stem height provides excellent resistance to lodging during wind gusts.
• Weaknesses: Like all lily-flowered types, this variety requires good soil drainage. In low-lying areas where water stagnates, the risk of bulb damage remains, despite its general phytosanitary hardiness.

This variety is an optimal choice for commercial cut flower production due to its petal density, as well as for private gardens where both aesthetics and predictable growth are prioritized. Yazz is a rare marriage of the refined lily-flowered silhouette and a reliable nature, ready for the challenges of unpredictable spring weather.
