Tulip Olympic Medal

Status and Genetics of Olympic Medal

The Triumph class tulip 'Olympic Medal' is a staple in the mid-season flowering segment. As a product of traditional Dutch breeding, it inherits the classic traits of the Triumph group, known for crossing early varieties with late Darwin hybrids. In the market, it is highly valued for its predictable cup shape and consistent performance in industrial forcing.

Agronomic Profile

The standout feature of this cultivar is its inherent resistance to a complex of common fungal pathogens, allowing growers to maintain high yield quality with reduced pesticide dependency. The variety shows strong resistance to:

• Anthracnose
• Verticillium wilt
• Fusarium
• Ascochyta blight

The plant reaches a medium height, making it highly versatile for both dense landscape planting and professional cut-flower production. The vibrant yellow petals maintain their color intensity under varying weather conditions, resisting premature bleaching.

Market Positioning

As a true representative of the Triumph class, Olympic Medal features a sturdy stem, which is a critical trait for logistics and extended cold storage. In commercial floriculture, it fills the 'stable standard' niche. It requires minimal specialized maintenance and offers excellent uniformity in flowering time. This makes it a preferred choice for growers looking to streamline spring sales cycles, where predictability and visual uniformity are paramount.
