Tulip Double Princess

Operating the Double Princess Tulip: Cultivation & Resilience

Integrating the Double Princess (Late Double) variety into your cultivation cycle brings distinct operational advantages, primarily due to its robust disease resistance profile. For any grower or greenhouse operator, reducing crop loss is a priority, and this variety shows excellent resilience against fusarium wilt and blackleg—two of the most common issues in intensive tulip production.

Maintenance & Field Management

One of the key technical benefits is its natural resistance to downy mildew (peronospora). This reduces the frequency of chemical spray cycles, lowering your overall input costs. However, given its medium stem height, management of water intake is crucial. Over-irrigation can lead to excessive stem elongation and reduced structural integrity, so precise moisture control is key to maintaining quality. The violet petals hold their pigment remarkably well, ensuring consistent market appearance until the end of the cutting phase.

• Scheduling: The mid-season blooming window allows for a predictable harvest, avoiding the peak supply congestion.
• Maintenance: No specialized growth regulators are required; standard feeding protocols are sufficient for optimal growth.
• Quality Control: The low susceptibility to rot minimizes culling rates during storage and transit.

For a professional operation, Double Princess represents a high-value asset that combines aesthetic appeal with operational stability. It is a predictable variety that manages to bridge the gap between high-end ornamental quality and industrial-grade durability.
