Tulip Allegretto

Technical Profile: Allegretto Tulip

The Allegretto tulip is categorized as a Double Late variety, engineered for high-density petal formation. Its architectural design aims to replicate the fullness of a peony, which serves a practical purpose: the dense layering of petals acts as a biological shield, protecting the flower's reproductive organs from volatile spring weather conditions.

Structural and Pigment Engineering

The aesthetic appeal of the Allegretto is defined by its deep red and lilac pigmentation. Beyond color, the plant’s physical stature is optimized; the medium-height stem is balanced to support the heavy, moisture-laden bloom, ensuring structural integrity even in windy field conditions. This physical robustness reduces the likelihood of stem breakage, which is a common failure point in heavy-headed double varieties.

Phytopathological Resilience

A major technical advantage of the Allegretto is its genetic resistance to common bulbous plant pathogens, which significantly reduces the need for intensive chemical intervention:

• Peronospora (Downy Mildew): The cultivar features an improved cuticle structure that prevents spore adhesion, effectively hindering the spread of the disease.
• Phomopsis and Phoma: The hybrid’s internal chemistry creates a barrier against these fungal pathogens, protecting both the stem and the bulb base from rot, even in saturated soil conditions.

For professional growers, these traits translate into higher marketable yields and lower fungicide expenditure. By choosing the Allegretto, producers mitigate risks associated with high-humidity cultivation, ensuring a cleaner, more robust final product.
