Tulip Double Price

Peony-like aesthetics for spring landscapes

The 'Double Price' tulip stands out among standard spring bulbous plants due to its dense, peony-shaped bud structure. As a mid-season variety, it is favored for creating eye-catching focal points in flower beds and framing border landscapes. Its signature feature is a rich lilac hue, which imparts a level of sophistication rarely found in common early-flowering classes.

Agronomic advantages and resilience

The primary reason professional growers choose 'Double Price' is its genetic resilience. Unlike many other double tulips, this hybrid demonstrates superior resistance to several pathogens that often threaten spring plantings:

• Sclerotinia (white rot): the variety shows strong resistance to soil-borne fungi when crop rotation protocols are followed.
• Downy mildew (Peronospora): enhanced resistance allows for fewer fungicide applications during the growing season.
• Phomopsis and Phoma: the robust tissue structure of the plant prevents the development of these infections, making 'Double Price' a predictable and manageable crop.

Who is this variety for?

The medium stem height makes the variety highly versatile: it is resistant to lodging from strong spring winds while remaining visually striking when cut. 'Double Price' is an ideal choice for landscape architects looking for a "safe" double tulip variety with high disease resistance. Its lilac shade requires careful color coordination—it looks best when paired with white or cream-colored early-class tulips. It is optimal for forcing in protected environments and for open-field planting where consistent results are required without the need for intensive chemical intervention.
