Tulip Blue Diamond

The Magic of Velvet Lilac

In the world of floriculture, the Blue Diamond tulip stands apart. Belonging to the double late category, it challenges stereotypes about standard spring blooms. Its bud is a dense, peony-like structure composed of dozens of satin petals in a deep lilac-violet hue. Unlike many other varieties that lose intensity in the sun, Blue Diamond maintains its dramatic, “jewel-toned” saturation until the very end of its blooming cycle.

Strengths and Horticultural Notes

The primary advantage of this variety is the texture of the flower. When fully opened, it resembles a lush peony, making it a favorite for both landscape design and commercial floristry. Its medium-height stem provides excellent resistance to lodging, which is crucial during spring wind gusts.

• Aesthetics: Unique, intense lilac coloration that pops against light green foliage.
• Resilience: Late-season flowering extends the spring aesthetic in your garden long after early bulbous varieties have faded.
• Utility: Perfect for cluster planting, striking in border arrangements, and maintains excellent vase life (up to 10–12 days).

It is important to note: like all double tulips, Blue Diamond requires protection from heavy rain. The heavy, dense bud can lean toward the ground when saturated, so choose a planting site shielded from strong winds and waterlogged soil.

Who is this variety for?

This is the choice for aesthetes and landscape designers searching for a high-impact focal point. While not suited for low-maintenance mass plantings due to its specific care requirements, it serves as a true "diamond" in curated gardens, private estates, or elite floral arrangements.
