Shalanda

The winter triticale variety Shalanda is a medium-maturing, high-yielding variety developed by the Institute of Plant Growing named after V.Ya. Yur'ev of NAAN and Volyn State Agricultural Experimental Station. It is recommended for cultivation in the forest-steppe and Polesie regions, due to its adaptation to local climatic conditions. Plants reach a height of 130-145 cm, have strong stems and high resistance to lodging, which helps preserve yield and facilitates harvest. The vegetation period is 280-285 days, corresponding to the medium-maturing type.

Shalanda is characterized by high winter hardiness (8-9 points) and resistance to drought, heat, and diseases (9 points), making it a reliable choice for various agroclimatic conditions. The potential grain yield reaches 10 tons per hectare, and green mass up to 65 tons per hectare. Grain has high protein content (11-14.5 %), gluten (24-28 %), and starch content (about 65 %), ensuring good baking and feed qualities. The VDK index varies from 85 to 110 units, indicating high flour quality.

Agronomic requirements for this variety include seeding rates from 2.5 to 5.5 million germinating seeds per hectare, depending on sowing dates and preceding crops. Optimal sowing times and proper agronomy contribute to maximum yield. The variety is recommended for cultivation after non-summer crops, which helps maintain soil health and reduce disease risk. Due to its characteristics, Shalanda is a versatile variety suitable for both high-quality grain production and high-quality forage mass.
