Description NIKOLKA
NIKOLKA field pea variety is a mid-season fodder crop intended for cultivation in the Volga-Vyatsk, West Siberia, and East Siberia regions. Plants reach a height of 65 to 93 cm, have a non-shattering type and leafless structure. The vegetative period is 64 to 90 days, during which the culture develops green mass within 37-61 days. The variety is distinguished by medium-to-high resistance to lodging and high resistance to shattering, ensuring crop preservation. Drought resistance is medium, and seedlings can withstand frosts down to -7 degrees. The plant is characterized by specific morphological features: the number of internodes before the first inflorescence is 13-14, stipules are well-developed, and anthocyanin coloration of the axils is expressed as a simple ring. Flowers have reddish-purple wings, and pods are weakly curved with a blunt tip and anthocyanin coloration spots. Seeds are irregularly shaped, brownish-green with marbling and purple spots on the skin, and cotyledons are yellow. The mass of 1000 seeds varies from 190 to 246 grams. NIKOLKA variety has a high protein content in dry matter — from 11.0 to 18.2%, which is 2.3% higher compared to the Omsk 9 variety, and protein content in grain reaches 22.7-24.1%. Dry matter yield averages 38.2 c/ha, and grain yield is 17 c/ha, with maximum indicators up to 73.9 c/ha and 30 c/ha, respectively. The culture is widely used as animal feed, as well as for green manure and soil structure improvement. Moreover, the variety is a good honey plant. Under field conditions, the variety is susceptible to powdery mildew, anthracnose, and ascohitosis to a medium degree.
