Triticale Elan'

Field performance of Elan winter triticale

The «Elan» variety, developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute, is designed for farmers who prioritize operational efficiency and predictable yields. With a plant height of 90–100 cm, the crop demonstrates excellent lodging resistance. For the combine operator, this simplifies the harvesting process significantly: the stand remains upright, allowing for faster header speeds and minimizing grain loss during operation.

From an agronomic management perspective, Elan acts as a low-maintenance, high-reliability variety. One of the main challenges in cereal production is managing infection pressure. Elan relieves much of the burden on the sprayer fleet. Due to its robust genetic immunity, the plant effectively resists brown and yellow rust, as well as stem smut. Essentially, this allows for a reduction in fungicide applications against rust complexes and powdery mildew, directly improving the cost-efficiency per ton of grain produced.

Operational features and field maintenance

• Convenient Structure: A height of 90–100 cm simplifies machinery movement during late-season crop protection and makes straw management easier.
• Winter Hardiness: The variety handles the climatic stressors of the region well, ensuring consistent stand density after the spring thaw.
• Disease Management: High resistance thresholds mean fewer chemical interventions are required, protecting both the crop and the budget during peak disease pressure periods.

When working with Elan, the operator benefits from uniform maturation. This consistency allows for precise combine setting adjustments, maintaining a steady flow of biomass into the thresher without the risk of blockages. For the farm owner, this translates to meeting tight harvest deadlines and delivering a high-quality, clean product to the elevator.
