Timothy Grass NYMPH

Timothy Grass 'Nympha': A Reliable Foundation for Forage Production

Developed by the A.G. Lorch Federal Potato Research Center, 'Nympha' is a dedicated forage variety of Timothy grass. While the originator is renowned for potato breeding, their work on forage grasses has yielded a consistent, winter-hardy variety tailored for productive hayfields and long-term pastures.

Field Performance and Key Advantages

• Superior Winter Hardiness: 'Nympha' was bred to withstand harsh winter conditions, ensuring a dense stand that recovers quickly as soon as the frost recedes.
• Longevity: This variety excels in persistence. When managed correctly, it remains a dominant component of the forage mix for 5–7 years, resisting the encroachment of unwanted weeds.
• Nutritional Balance: As a pure forage-type grass, it provides a stable energy-to-protein ratio, serving as a high-quality building block for bovine dietary needs.

Strategic Considerations

It is important to note that 'Nympha' performs best in regions with sufficient moisture. While it is robust, its yield potential on dry, sandy soil is limited without supplementary irrigation. The ideal habitat for this cultivar is fertile, loamy soil where it can respond vigorously to nitrogen management, delivering consistent multi-cut yields.

Who is this for? 'Nympha' is best suited for dairy and livestock operations looking for a stable, predictable, and long-lasting forage source. It is a cost-effective solution for those prioritizing the creation of permanent grasslands that can reliably produce high-quality forage season after season.
