Timothy Grass NIKITAIEVSKAYA

Siberian Hardiness for Forage Lands

The 'Nikitaevskaya' timothy grass variety is a product of the Siberian Federal Scientific Center for Agrobiotechnologies, specifically bred to withstand harsh continental climates. Unlike many European counterparts, this variety is engineered for extreme temperature fluctuations, offering a reliable forage solution for regions prone to severe winters.

Productivity and Economics

Designed for consistent forage production, this variety is ideal for establishing long-term hay and pasture meadows. Under standard agronomic management, it yields between 15 and 30 tons of green mass per hectare. With a seed yield of 2–5 centners per hectare, it allows farmers to maintain self-sufficiency in high-quality planting material while offering a surplus for trade.

Strengths and Limitations

• Winter Hardiness: The primary advantage of 'Nikitaevskaya'. The variety recovers quickly from late spring frosts and maintains viability during winters with little snow cover.
• Consistency: Predictable growth cycles allow for precise scheduling of mowing and harvest intervals.
• Drought Tolerance: Rated at a moderate level. Productivity may decline during intense, prolonged droughts; therefore, it performs best on fields with reliable moisture levels or floodplains.

'Nikitaevskaya' is an optimal choice for livestock operations requiring a dependable, low-maintenance source of hay and pasture in challenging environments. While it does not demand complex care, its performance is highly sensitive to moisture availability during peak growing stages, a factor that must be managed during field selection.
