Description
AlexandrIt is a new variety of perennial creeping thyme, characterized by compact growth up to 15 cm and dense, slightly prostrate foliage. The leaves are short-stalked, small, tough, green in color with an elliptical shape, and the flowers are gathered in head-shaped inflorescences of a pinkish-lilac hue. The plant has a strong aroma, making it valuable both as a seasoning for meat, fish, and vegetable dishes, and as an additive for preserving fruits and vegetables.
AlexandrIt thyme is highly resistant to cold: during the winter period it withstands frost perfectly without the need for covering. At the same time, the plant responds well to drought, but in hot summer requires artificial irrigation to maintain optimal soil moisture. Ideal soil - light, fertile, with good drainage; alkaline or neutral is preferred, and with clay soil additional drainage and gravel mulching is required.
Collected leaves and young shoots can be used both fresh and dried. The yield of greens is 1.9–2.0 kg/m2, and the mass of one plant is about 20 g. Due to its aromatic properties, thyme Alexandrit is also used in perfumery and as an antiseptic in medical practice. The plant is easily grown in the garden for decorative purposes, where its compact growth and resistance to adverse conditions make it a popular choice among gardeners.
