Thyme Medok

Aesthetics and utility in one package

The 'Medok' thyme by the Russian brand Agrofirma Poisk is a selective product that harmoniously combines ornamental qualities with high nutritional value. Unlike wild-growing species, this variety was bred with a focus on consistent aromatic potency, earning a top score of 5 out of 5. With its creeping growth habit, the plant forms a dense, attractive mat 15–30 cm tall, which not only delights the eye during flowering with soft pink blossoms but also serves as a functional element in any landscape design.

Agrotechnical features and application

The 'Medok' variety is a classic perennial herb adapted to temperate climates. Key characteristics of the crop include:

• Winter hardiness: down to -15 °C. This makes it optimal for regions with mild or moderate winters, as well as for container gardening.
• Appearance: the deep dark green foliage remains vibrant throughout the growing season, providing a perfect contrast to its floral display.
• Culinary potential: high concentration of essential oils makes it an ideal choice for drying and as a culinary seasoning.
• Medicinal use: beyond gastronomy, thyme is traditionally used in folk medicine as an antiseptic and expectorant.

The reputation of Agrofirma Poisk and the breeding efforts led by Sergey Vasilyevich Maksimov have resulted in a variety that thrives in sunny locations with well-drained soil. 'Medok' is highly sought after by both professional landscape designers and home gardeners who appreciate combining the beauty of rock gardens with the practical utility of a home herb patch.
