Thyme FRAGRANT BED

Biological Potential and Variety Profile

The 'Aromatnaya Gryadka' (Fragrant Bed) thyme from the Aelita agricultural firm is a compact, shrub-type perennial developed by a breeding team including V.G. Kachaynik, M.N. Gulkin, and S.V. Matyunina. This variety is engineered for maximum vegetative output, consistently yielding between 0.3 and 0.5 kg of fresh mass per square meter, making it a highly efficient option for both home gardeners and small-scale herb producers.

Agrotechnical Insights and Utility

The core advantage of this variety lies in its dense growth habit. By concentrating energy into bushy, well-foliated stems, 'Aromatnaya Gryadka' optimizes the synthesis of essential oils, which is fundamental for its dual use as a culinary spice and a medicinal herb. Its structural stability allows for easy pruning, which in turn encourages the growth of fresh, succulent leaves throughout the season.

• Yield Efficiency: Capable of producing up to 0.5 kg/m² of high-quality green mass.
• Growth Architecture: The shrub-like form makes it an excellent candidate for both traditional beds and container gardening.
• Practical Application: Well-suited for use as a concentrated seasoning or for drying for home apothecary use due to its potent aromatic properties.

For successful cultivation, soil drainage is the most critical factor; being a shrub-type herb, the root system is highly sensitive to waterlogging. Additionally, the plant thrives under direct sunlight, which is necessary to trigger the production of its signature aromatic compounds. When maintained with proper pruning, this variety serves as a long-lasting, reliable source of fresh herbs, eliminating the need for frequent replanting.
