Description
Thyme 'Limoncello' is a fragrant and unpretentious greenery that quickly attracts attention with its bright citrus scent. Bushes reach a height of 20–25 cm, with a diameter of 30–35 cm, and the mass of one piece is about 40–50 g. Yield in open ground ranges from 0.3 to 0.6 kg per square meter, making it profitable for both home use and small commercial plantations.
The 'Limoncello' variety is widely used in cooking: added to sauces, marinades, soups, and fish dishes, as well as used in preparing drinks and liqueurs. Thanks to its fresh lemon taste, it goes well with other herbs and spices. In addition, the plant is valued as a source of healing properties: it can be consumed as tea or dried leaves can be used to prepare infusions.
To grow 'Limoncello', you need to ensure well-drained soil of neutral acidity, a bright and sunny place. Seeds are sown in March; seedlings appear in two weeks, after which the seedlings are pricked out. Bushes can be planted in open ground after the threat of frost has passed, as well as grown indoors. It is important to avoid over-wetting the soil – the plant does not tolerate excess moisture, so watering should be moderate, allowing the top layer of soil to dry out slightly between feedings.
'Limoncello' is also valued as an ornamental plant and an excellent honey-producing crop. Its compact bushes easily fit into alpine pots or small flower beds, and the fragrant scent attracts bees, facilitating pollination and increasing yield.
