Description
Technological features of the Willinger hybrid
Willinger is a high-yielding sweet corn hybrid from Bayer Holland B.V., registered in Ukraine in 2023. The plant is characterized by significant height and low ear placement, which provides excellent lodging resistance and facilitates mechanized harvesting. The intense green color of the leaves and their inclined position promote efficient photosynthesis, which is critical for forming a high yield of sweet grain.
Agrotechnical requirements
- Soil and preparation: The hybrid performs best in fertile, well-aerated soils with a neutral pH. It is ideal for cultivation on light loams and chernozems. Quality pre-sowing cultivation is essential to create a fine-grained seedbed.
- Sowing dates: Sowing should be carried out when the soil at a depth of 10 cm warms up to +10...+12°C. Early tassel flowering allows the hybrid to effectively utilize spring moisture.
- Planting density: Given the plant morphology (long stem, medium leaf angle), the optimal density is 55,000–65,000 plants per hectare. This ensures sufficient feeding area and optimal light penetration for each layer.
- Irrigation and nutrition: Willinger requires consistent moisture during critical phases: from tasseling to grain filling. During this period, it is necessary to maintain soil moisture at 70–80% of field capacity. Split nitrogen application is recommended: the main portion during pre-sowing cultivation and top-dressing at the 5–7 leaf stage.
With moderate leaf margin waviness and dense spikelet arrangement on the tassel, the hybrid demonstrates high adaptability to environmental stressors. The absence of anthocyanin coloration on most vegetative organs indicates a healthy physiological state of the plant when proper agrotechnical practices are followed.
