The breeding program of the Pervomayskaya Sugar Beet Research Station is focused on solving a major challenge in intensive sugar beet production: crop losses due to pathogens. The SKMS 11329 hybrid is a specialized product where genetic resistance is seamlessly integrated into the root morphology. The primary focus is placed on immunity to cercospora, powdery mildew, and a complex of rots, which allows for minimized fungicide application during critical vegetative phases.

Morphological Features and Productivity

The physical characteristics of the root crop determine not only yield volumes but also the efficiency of mechanized harvesting:

• Root shape: cylindrical-conical. This geometry allows the plant to penetrate the soil deeply, preventing “crowning” and, subsequently, greening or a reduction in sugar content.
• Size: large type. Ensures high gross yield figures when optimal plant density is maintained.

Developed by a team of originators led by A. G. Shevchenko, V. A. Logvinov, and V. N. Mishchenko, the hybrid is based on the principles of adaptability. This means the varietal potential of SKMS 11329 is fully realized across a wide range of soil and climatic conditions. The absence of susceptibility to premature leaf diseases allows the plant to maintain photosynthetic activity for a longer period, focusing all energy on sugar accumulation.
