Sugar beet MS 908

Belgian Breeding for High-Yield Performance

The MC 908 sugar beet hybrid from Sesvanderhave Nv/Sa stands out in the market as a high-performance solution for commercial growers. Belonging to the NZ (Normal-Sugar) type, this hybrid is engineered to achieve an optimal balance between large root biomass and high sugar content, typically ranging from 17% to 18%.

Key Agronomic Advantages

Sesvanderhave’s focus on field robustness is evident in the MC 908. It is specifically bred to mitigate the common risks associated with intensive sugar beet cultivation:

• Disease Resistance: The hybrid features excellent genetic protection against Cercospora leaf spot and powdery mildew, reducing the need for aggressive chemical spraying.
• Early Growth Vigor: Strong tolerance to black root rot (Aphanomyces) ensures a high plant population right from the germination phase, even under challenging soil conditions.
• Harvest Quality: Resistance to root rots ensures the beets remain healthy throughout the season and arrive at the processing facility with high quality and minimal decay.

The cylindrical-conical root shape of the MC 908 makes it highly suitable for modern mechanical harvesting equipment. By choosing this hybrid, producers benefit from a reliable, genetically stable plant that adapts well to various soil types, delivering consistent tonnage and high sucrose yield year after year.
