Sugar beet Maxim

Breeding legacy in sugar beet protection

The “Maksym” variety, developed by experts at the Institute of Sugar Beet of the UAAS, represents a time-tested solution in Ukrainian sugar beet cultivation. This variety is the result of long-term domestic breeding efforts aimed at adapting the crop to the specific soil and climatic conditions of Ukraine. Its reputation is built on yield predictability and a stable response to major field pathogens.

Phytosanitary reliability

The primary value of this variety lies in its distinct resistance to a complex of diseases that traditionally limit sugar beet productivity. “Maksym” demonstrates high resilience against pathogens causing root rot, downy mildew, and seed molding. This resistance profile significantly reduces the risk of crop loss during the early growth stages, which is critical for establishing optimal plant density.

Protection spectrum

Utilizing this variety effectively minimizes the negative impact of a wide range of fungal diseases. In field conditions, “Maksym” shows high efficacy against:

• Alternaria leaf spot and Phoma rot;
• Rhizoctonia;
• Fusarium wilt;
• Soil-borne pathogens causing various rots.

Due to rigorous selection, the variety possesses increased tolerance to seed mold, making it a preferred choice for farms operating on heavy, waterlogged soils where the infection pressure is traditionally higher.

Market positioning and usage

“Maksym” is oriented toward agricultural producers who seek to combine intensive farming technologies with a reliable phytosanitary baseline. The variety consistently realizes its potential when crop rotation and basic agricultural standards are maintained. It is a choice for those seeking a proven tool with guaranteed resistance to the most dangerous “early-stage” diseases of sugar beets, thereby reducing reliance on intensive chemical fungicide treatments during critical development phases.
