Sugar beet MANITOU

Belgian breeding for high sugar yield

The «Manitou» sugar beet hybrid from the Belgian company Sesvanderhave Nv/Sa is the result of years of breeding work aimed at solving the primary challenge of modern beet farming: combining high sugar output with robust phytosanitary immunity. As a sugar-type (Z) variety, this hybrid addresses the needs of farms operating in intensive cultivation zones where the risk of pathogen pressure is critical.

Comprehensive field protection

The core value of «Manitou» lies in its genetic resistance. In an environment where farmers face annual yield losses due to soil-borne and foliar infections, this hybrid demonstrates superior resistance to:

• Rhizomania, one of the most destructive viral diseases;
• Cercospora, which can devastate foliage in a matter of weeks;
• Seedling blight, affecting early-stage crop development;
• Powdery mildew and the sugar beet nematode.

This array of defensive traits allows for a significant reduction in pesticide application, making it an excellent choice for sustainable farming operations. High resistance to rot ensures optimal preservation of the roots, both in the field during the pre-harvest period and during transit to processing facilities.

Market positioning

Sesvanderhave Nv/Sa maintains its position as a global leader in sugar beet seed production through deep specialization. «Manitou» serves as a reliable, high-performance tool for agronomists. It is not an experimental product, but a proven solution for those prioritizing predictable results. The hybrid's consistency enables efficient harvest logistics, with roots showcasing high uniformity and sugar content, directly impacting the profitability of sugar production.
