ZUMBA is a two-line hybrid of grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) intended primarily for fodder purposes. The plant is characterized by low height at maturity and medium anthocyanin coloration of seedlings. The mass of 1000 grains is approximately 19.9 g, while the average grain yield reaches 22.8 tons/ha, which exceeds standard indicators by 20%. The maximum grain yield was recorded at 47.3 tons/ha in the Rostov region. The hybrid belongs to late and very late maturity periods, which allows its use in various climatic conditions.
Moreover, ZUMBA is a BMR hybrid of silage sorghum with reduced lignin content (no more than 6%), which significantly improves fodder quality due to high digestibility and excellent palatability by agricultural animals. Plants reach a height of 160-180 cm, possess powerful foliage, and are resistant to lodging. The hybrid demonstrates high drought resistance and disease resistance, which ensures yield stability and high-quality silage equivalent to corn.
ZUMBA is suitable for cultivation using the no-till system, which facilitates agronomic activities and reduces costs for soil processing. The recommended sowing rate is 10-12 kg per hectare with a row spacing of 15-30 cm. The vegetative period until silage harvest is 110-115 days after germination. Due to its characteristics, this hybrid is an excellent choice for producing silage and other fodders, ensuring high productivity and fodder base quality.
