NO-5 Sorghum is a high-yielding hybrid variety intended for cultivation as grain or silage. Plants reach a height of 60 to 200 cm, with a vegetation period of 115 to 140 days. Seeds weigh 28-30 g per 1000 kernels, and the grain color can be red or white. The potential yield of this variety is up to 120 ц/ha for grain and up to 900 ц/ha for silage, although actual yields typically reach 32-38 ц/ha. The variety is resistant to diseases, drought, and temperature fluctuations, making it suitable for cultivation throughout Ukraine.
NO-5 does not require special growing conditions, tolerates various soil types, and does not demand high irrigation. Sowing is recommended immediately after frost risk, typically at the end of April to the beginning of May. Seeds are sown shallowly, up to 1 cm, without overcrowding to ensure formation of large panicles. The plant prefers sunny locations and requires regular weeding to remove weeds, as it, like most cereal crops, poorly tolerates their presence.
A distinctive feature of this variety is its origin from a natural hybrid of common sorghum with black grain, which imparts unique antioxidant properties. To increase yield and improve growth, it is recommended to use the microfertilizer 5 ELEMENT, which has a systemic effect, stimulates plant growth and immunity, and enhances soil microbiota. This water-soluble preparation contains a complex of microelements and biologically active substances, capable of increasing sorghum yield by 15-30% when applied as a pre-sowing seed treatment.
