Maize Hovard

Genetic Architecture of the Howard Hybrid

The «Howard» maize hybrid from Stov Lnz-agro is an intensive variety engineered to realize maximum biological potential under Ukrainian climatic conditions. The technical value of this selection lies in the balanced combination of early vigor and an extended grain-filling period.

Key Productivity Nodes

• Stem Architectonics: The hybrid possesses high lodging resistance due to a robust root system and optimal stem thickness. This is critical for late-season harvesting, where maintaining crop integrity directly prevents yield losses.
• Moisture Release Dynamics: A common bottleneck for many high-yielding hybrids is slow moisture release. «Howard» demonstrates accelerated moisture loss during the final growth phase, which reduces post-harvest drying costs and allows for an earlier start to the harvest campaign.
• Cob Morphology: Featuring a semi-dent grain type, this morphology ensures high planting density and excellent dry matter yield during threshing. The kernels are well-filled to the very tip, minimizing the risk of cob barrenness during temperature spikes.

The practical advantage of incorporating «Howard» into a crop rotation lies in its plasticity. The hybrid responds well to high-input environments, efficiently converting mineral nutrients into high-quality biomass. Harvest stability is bolstered by high tolerance to primary stem and leaf pathogens, which decreases the dependency on supplemental fungicide applications.
