PHOENIX is a mid-ripening variety of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) intended for green mass production. It is characterized by high yield, drought resistance, resistance to lodging, and resistance to damage from common grain aphids. The variety has increased foliage (35-45%), which contributes to the formation of a significant volume of green mass. The average yield of green mass for silage is about 42 tons per hectare, while crude protein content in dry matter reaches 7.2-7.9%, and sugars in stem juice reach 11-12%, ensuring good fodder quality.
According to the originator, the average grain yield in the region is 87.1 centners per hectare, which is 26.2% higher than the standard. The maximum yield of green mass was recorded at 279 centners per hectare. Dry matter obtained is about 14 tons per hectare, and grain is 3 tons per hectare. Thanks to its characteristics, the PHOENIX variety is widely used for feeding animals and is suitable for cultivation in the North Caucasus region.
The variety is characterized by high adaptability and resistance to unfavorable conditions, which makes it a reliable choice for farmers seeking a stable and quality green mass harvest. Its use contributes to efficient cattle feeding due to high protein and sugar content, improving the nutritional value of feeds.
