Sorghum OdK79A

Reliable feed production: Odk79A Sorghum

As climate conditions fluctuate, Ukrainian farmers increasingly rely on drought-tolerant crops. Odk79A sorghum, developed by the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute – National Center of Seed and Cultivar Research, has established itself as a productive, compact solution for green mass production.

This variety represents a classic approach to breeding, focusing on practical agronomic needs. With a growing season of 90–100 days, the plant reaches a height of only 90–100 cm. These physical characteristics make it easy to harvest and ideal for creating dense stands.

Application and Value

The primary use of Odk79A is the development of a high-quality feed base. Its performance profile makes it highly effective for two main purposes:

• Hay: Rapid growth and a well-balanced stem structure ensure high palatability for livestock.
• Silage: The compact nature of the plant allows for efficient compaction in silage pits, significantly reducing fermentation losses.

Choosing this variety is a risk-mitigation strategy. Unlike taller hybrids, Odk79A is better adapted to high-density sowing, which is crucial during periods of moisture deficiency. It remains a robust tool for operations looking to balance the speed of crop maturity with consistent nutritional value in their forage.
