Sorghum Pineapple

Technical Profile: 'Ananas' Grain Sorghum

The 'Ananas' variety, developed by the Institute of Agriculture of the Steppe Zone of NAAS (Ukraine), is a specialized grain-purpose hybrid designed to maximize commodity yield under moisture-deficient conditions. The core of this genetic solution lies in the optimized biomass-to-grain partitioning, which ensures that photoassimilates are channeled primarily into the panicle rather than excessive vegetative development.

Key Performance Indicators

• Stand Uniformity: The variety exhibits exceptional stalk uniformity, which is critical for efficient mechanical harvesting and minimizes losses during direct combining.
• Drought Resilience: Engineered for the Steppe climate, 'Ananas' maintains pollen fertility even during extreme heat spikes, effectively preventing panicle blast and blanking.
• Grain Quality: The kernels possess high test weight and optimal structural integrity, meeting industrial requirements for milling and compound feed production.

The practical advantage of the 'Ananas' variety is its agronomic plasticity. It allows for flexible seeding rate management while maintaining high yield stability. A robust root system developed in the early vegetative stages enables the crop to maximize the use of available soil moisture, serving as a reliable insurance policy against the recurrent droughts characteristic of Southern and Eastern Ukraine.
