Sorghum ES WILLY is a simple mid-season hybrid of grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), intended for grain production. This variety is adapted to various cultivation conditions and is recommended for growing in the Central Chernozem, North Caucasus, and Lower Volga regions. Average yields in these areas range from 18.5 to 25.8 ц/га, with maximum yields reaching 72.2 ц/га, indicating high potential productivity even under drought conditions. ES WILLY is distinguished by good cold resistance, resistance to apical sterility, and retention of green plant color, enhancing its reliability and productivity.
Morphological characteristics of the variety include a semi-compact panicle of about 26-28 cm in length, short plant height (approximately 125 cm), and a 1000-seed mass within the range of 29-34 g. The grain has a reddish-cream color and consists approximately 75% of glassy and 25% of gritty texture. Protein content in the grain is about 9.2%, and starch content is 65.6%, making it valuable for grain use. Temperature sums required for plant development vary: from sowing to panicle emergence — approximately 920-960°C, to grain moisture content of 25% — approximately 1830-1860°C.
For optimal cultivation of ES WILLY, specific agronomic parameters should be followed. Sowing density depends on conditions: under stress — 250–300 thousand seeds per hectare, under favorable conditions — 260–320 thousand, and under irrigation — 300–350 thousand seeds per hectare. Row spacing should be 30–70 cm, sowing depth — 2–4 cm, and soil temperature — not below 10–12°C. The variety exhibits high resistance to drought, lodging, shattering, and fusarium, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in forest-steppe and steppe zones with varying moisture levels.
