ES TYPHON — an early-maturing, simple hybrid of grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), intended for cultivation in the Lower Volga region and other areas with forest-steppe and steppe climates. The hybrid is characterized by high yield potential, reaching a maximum of 52.8 centners per hectare, with an average yield of about 17.2 centners per hectare in the Lower Volga region. Plants reach a height of approximately 125 cm, have a semi-dense panicle 28 cm long, and red-cream colored grain, giving sorghum an attractive appearance and good technological properties.
The variety is characterized by high resistance to lodging and shattering, ensuring crop preservation under adverse weather conditions. The hybrid’s drought resistance is at standard level, allowing successful cultivation even under insufficient moisture conditions. In addition, ES TYPHON exhibits resistance to Fusarium, enhancing its reliability and reducing the risk of yield losses due to diseases.
Sorghum grain contains approximately 9.2% protein and 65.6% starch, making it a valuable raw material for feed and food purposes. The 1000-seed weight is 34 g, indicating good seed material quality. The recommended seeding rate varies depending on moisture conditions: from 160,000 to 280,000 seeds per hectare. ES TYPHON requires a sum of effective temperatures of about 920°С from sowing to panicle emergence and 1860°С until grain moisture reaches 25%, corresponding to an average early maturity date.
