Variety distinguishing features. Variety — sordida. Medium height plants (up to 90 cm), semi-compact form with thick central stem. Pubescence dark brown, flowers purple, seeds spherical, light yellow, hilum brown, 1000-seed mass 160-170 g.
Biological characteristics. Early maturing variety, vegetation period duration 90-100 days, high drought resistance, resistant to lodging (8.0-9.0 points), shattering (8.0-9.0 points), pathogens and pests (8.0 points), suitable for mechanical harvesting.
Agronomic characteristics. Recommended seeding rate 0.6-0.7 million germinating seeds per hectare. Seeding method — conventional row or wide-row (row spacing 45 cm). Agronomy practices are standard for the cultivation zone.
In the variety trial of the Institute of Plant Breeding named after V. Ya. Yuryev (1993-1995), yield was 2.5 t/ha. In 2001 in Sumy Oblast (Institute of Agriculture of the Northeast) the variety Mечта ranked first by yield (3.4 t/ha). In production conditions in Kharkiv Oblast in 2005, yield was 3.8 t/ha. Potential yield of the variety 3.5-3.9 t/ha, protein content in seeds — 38-39%, oil — 22-23%.
