Winter barley Aspekt

Genetic Potential and Adaptability

The "Aspekt" barley variety, developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute, is a breeding solution engineered for extreme reliability under the volatile climatic conditions of Ukraine. The key strength of this variety lies in its fusion of an intensive development cycle with robust biological defense mechanisms.

Technical Specifications

• Winter Hardiness and Vegetation: With a winter hardiness rating of 9, "Aspekt" serves as a reliable tool for mitigating freeze-related risks. The 90–100 day vegetation period allows the plant to efficiently utilize early spring moisture before the onset of peak summer heat.
• Morphological Architecture: The short stature (60–70 cm) ensures high lodging resistance. This is a critical structural element for maintaining yield potential when using intensive nitrogen fertilization protocols. The two-row ear combined with large grain size (1,000-seed weight of 48–50 g) creates an optimal productivity structure, focusing plant energy on grain filling rather than excessive vegetative mass.

Phytosanitary Defense

The breeders have embedded complex resistance into the "Aspekt" genotype against key pathogens that typically limit barley yields. The variety effectively resists a spectrum of foliar infections, including helminthosporiosis, powdery mildew, mycosphaerella spot, and brown spot. From a technical standpoint, this reduces the reliance on fungicide treatments, allowing farmers to optimize crop protection costs without sacrificing yield performance.
