Winter barley Modern

Working with Modern Barley

When selecting seed material for winter crops, the first priority is assessing the 'insurance fund'—how well the variety handles winter stress. Developed by the Yuriev Plant Production Institute, this variety demonstrates excellent winter hardiness at an 8-point level. In the field, this ensures a uniform, viable stand in spring without the need for mass reseeding.

Agronomic Performance in the Field

This two-row barley is a classic choice for Ukrainian conditions. With a plant height of 100-110 cm, it is not prone to lodging, which significantly simplifies harvesting operations. The short vegetation period (90-100 days) allows for efficient crop rotation, freeing up fields for the next crop within optimal timelines.

• 1000-kernel weight: 46-48 g, ensuring a quality start and good germination energy.
• Field health: The variety possesses genetic resistance to a wide range of pathogens.
• Phytosanitary protection: It effectively resists helminthosporiosis, covered smut, loose smut, mycosphaerella leaf spot, and brown spot.

Field experience shows that 'Modern' requires a standard approach to fungicide protection, but its high baseline resistance means you don't have to turn your fields into a zone of constant chemical application. This saves your budget and reduces the pesticide load on the soil.
