Winter barley Etiket

Stable yields in challenging farming conditions

The «Etiket» barley variety, developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute, is designed for farms prioritizing yield predictability and risk mitigation. In Ukraine's fluctuating climate, this variety shows high adaptability, maintaining its productivity potential even under adverse environmental factors.

Agronomic profile and growth features

«Etiket» is a two-row spring barley variety offering a crucial advantage: high winter hardiness (rated at 8/9). This characteristic allows farmers to use it not only in standard crop rotations but also as a reliable backup for the winter crop wedge. A compact stem height of 70–80 cm minimizes lodging risks, significantly simplifying harvesting operations and reducing grain loss.

• Vegetation period: 80–90 days. Helps avoid July soil droughts, ensuring timely maturation.
• Grain size: the 1000-seed weight is 50–52 g, ensuring high marketable grain yield and demand from processors.
• Pathogen resistance: genetic protection against a complex of smut diseases (covered, loose, stem) and powdery mildew allows for the optimization of fungicide expenditure.

Practical application tips

Selecting this variety is highly justified in regions with high pathogen pressure, where the phytosanitary state of fields requires careful management. Due to its short vegetation period, «Etiket» is an excellent solution for fields that need to be cleared early for subsequent crops. The high 1000-seed weight makes it a superior predecessor for following seasons. When cultivating this variety, the primary focus should be on proper soil preparation to fully realize the tillering potential established by the breeder.
