Brewing. Year of inclusion in the State Register of plant varieties suitable for propagation in Ukraine — 2008. Recommended growing zones: forest-steppe and steppe.
Originator — Institute of Plant Breeding named after V. Ya. Yuryev, NAAN.
Variety distinguishing features. Variety — Nutans (nutans). Plants of medium height (70 — 82 cm). Stems have moderate anthocyanin pigmentation at tips, long, serrated. Two-row ear, with moderate waxy coating, cylindrical, loose (11.9 nodes per 4 cm), medium length. Sterile spikelet is bent. Spikelet bract and awn of the middle spikelet are longer than the grain. Flower bracts are finely wrinkled, with weak venation, gradually transitioning into awns. Grains are elliptical, yellow, husky. Main awn is long-haired. 1000-grain mass 46 — 54 g. The variety has high productive tillering — 1.6 stems.
Biological characteristics. Maturity group — medium-early, vegetation period 84 — 94 days. Highly resistant to lodging (9.0 points), drought (9.0 points). The variety is a source of complex resistance to pathogens causing powdery mildew (8 — 9 points), downy mildew (7 points), and internal stem pests (8 points).
Agronomic characteristics. Intensive type variety. Recommended seeding rate 4.0 — 4.5 million germinating seeds per hectare. Standard agronomy for the growing zone, early sowing dates.
Under production conditions, yields reached 5.47 t/ha (Volchansky DSCS, Kharkiv region) and 7.13 t/ha ("Agrofirm Dzhulinka", Vinnytsia region). Even under extremely dry conditions in 2011, the yield of Parnas at DPDG "Elitnoe" (Kharkiv region) was 3.90 t/ha. Potential yield 8.5 — 9.5 t/ha. Grain has good brewing qualities: extract content — 81.0%, protein content 10.5 — 10.9%, uniformity 98.3%. Percentage of conditioned seeds 75 — 85%.
