DAKA

The Daka plum is a late-maturing hybrid of Chinese plum and Pissarda plum, distinguished by its original leaf, flower, and ovary coloration with a vivid anthocyanin tint. The tree reaches a height of up to 2.5 meters and has a broom-like crown. The variety boasts good winter hardiness and resistance to winter injury, making it suitable for cultivation in regions with a cold climate, including the Altai Krai and Barnaul. For successful fruiting, the presence of foreign pollinators nearby, such as the Ussurian plum or other plum hybrid varieties, is recommended. Daka plum fruits are of medium size, weighing from 15 to 20 grams, oval-shaped with a bright salmon-pink or orange-pink coloration and a vivid blush. The fruit flesh is juicy, orange with pink veins, having a sweet-and-sour taste with a honey aroma. The skin is sufficiently thick, and the pit is poorly separated from the flesh. The fruits ripen at the end of August to the beginning of September and do not shed, which facilitates harvest collection. The variety is resistant to codling moth, reducing losses during storage and transportation. Daka differs in high yield — on average 9 kg per tree or about 11.3 tons per hectare. The tree is decorative and can be used not only for fruit production but also for garden ornamentation. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for pickling and long-term storage.
