Garlic winter variety Promin is an early-ripening Ukrainian variety developed by the Kyiv Research Station IOB UAAN. The vegetation period is approximately 95 days from the appearance of the first shoots. Bulbs have a round, slightly flattened shape, weighing about 70 grams in dry state, consisting of 4-5 large cloves with a sharp taste. Dry skin is colored dirty-white, and cloves are in a pale purple hue. This variety is characterized by high frost resistance, withstands temperatures up to -25°C without snow, and also tolerates drought well. Promin garlic is resistant to fusarium, is not demanding in terms of agrotechnics and does not require special soil conditions, which makes it universal for cultivation in all regions of Ukraine.
The variety is excellent for processing in large volumes due to easy and quick cleaning of cloves. With drip irrigation, yield reaches 24-26 tons of marketable garlic per hectare. Garlic stores well from season to season, maintaining its taste qualities and nutritional value. In addition, the Parador variety, also winter garlic, is characterized by high yield, good taste qualities and frost resistance, which confirms the general advantages of winter garlic varieties for open ground.
The chemical composition of dried garlic is rich in vitamins and minerals necessary for the human body. It contains vitamins of the B group (B1, B2, B5, B6, B9), C, E, K, PP, as well as trace elements: potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, iron, chlorine, iodine, cobalt, phosphorus and sodium. Dried garlic retains all the beneficial properties of fresh and is additionally enriched with niacin and choline, which improve cell metabolism, regulate insulin levels and contribute to improved memory. Due to essential oils and phytoncides, garlic is a powerful natural antiviral agent and antibiotic, increasing the body's resistance to infections.
