Description Lagidna
Pajitnitsa (Lolium) — this is a grassy weed widely distributed in Ukraine and Europe. Several species of pajitnitsa exist, including perennial and annual forms such as Lolium multiflorum, also known as Italian ryegrass. This plant is used as fodder for cattle and for lawn creation due to its high yield of green mass and rapid growth. Pajitnitsa blooms from early April to the first half of July, fruits in July–August, and is often found on pastures and meadows, as well as may infest flax and cereal crops. Pajitnitsa can act as both a useful fodder crop and an aggressive weed, competing with main agricultural plants for nutrients, light, and water, thereby reducing their yields. It reproduces both by seeds and vegetatively, reaching up to 1.5 meters in height, which complicates its control on large areas. Herbicides with various active ingredients, such as glyphosate, clethodim, fluazifop-P-butyl, as well as formulations based on flucarbazone, tiencarbazone-methyl, and cloquarim, effectively suppress weed growth at different stages of development and in various crops, including cereals, corn, and rapeseed. It is important to observe the correct timing of herbicide application for maximum effectiveness. In addition to agricultural significance, pajitnitsa has other characteristics. The pollen of this plant may cause allergic reactions in people, manifesting as rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and hives. The seeds of pajitnitsa are used in folk medicine and as a spice due to their antioxidant properties. Thus, pajitnitsa represents a multifaceted plant with important significance in fodder production, agriculture, and medicine, requiring a proper approach to management and use.
